The Bands

Stormy Weather showcases musicians that are deeply rooted in the Pacific Northwest jazz dance scene - plus a few of their closest friends from across the country. We’re thrilled to welcome back the same artists who have become an essential part of this event.

Look forward to four unforgettable nights of live music, featuring both classic tunes and inspiring original works — all brought to life with the impeccable sound design of our tech lead, Nathan McWilliams.

With years of experience playing for and collaborating with dancers, these musicians are uniquely equipped to support this year’s focus: deepening the connection between musicians and dancers. Expect fresh, dynamic approaches in both our classes and contests!

The Cloud Drops are an all-star Seattle dance band that formed specifically for Stormy Weather. The band features over 60 original compositions and arrangements by local heroes Jonathan Doyle, Jacob Zimmerman, and Matt Weiner, with contributions from other members of the band. 

The Golden Hour Quartet and The Golden Hour Orchestra are joining us again this year from Austin, Texas! Lauryn and Ryan Gould are event favorites not just for their outstanding musicianship, but for their deep love of dance and connecting with dancers while they play.

For New Year’s Eve, we’re featuring the legendary Josh Roberts Orchestra led by regional favorite, Josh Roberts from Vancouver, BC. This powerhouse orchestra rings in the new year with driving grooves, high-energy bangers, and sweet tunes perfect for toasting at midnight.

Two more of our Pacific Northwest jazz legends are back to lead bands this year: Alex Guilbert on piano and Jacob Zimmerman on saxophone and clarinet. Yes, many of these bands are packed with bandleaders, making it a true thrill for dancers to experience the virtuosity and variety each musician brings to the stage.
